For me 2009 is going to be my BIG YEAR. I’ve already decided I’m going to make a lot of money this year. I know that “the economy” is on everybody’s mind and there’s a lot of talk about how bad things are AND how bad things are going to get, but I pretty much ignore it. A couple of days ago I got my most recent end-of-the-month check from Google Adsense and I don’t see any end in sight. I mean “internet companies” come and go, as the great bust of the 90’s showed us, but Google is the big daddy I have faith in. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon. And everyday MORE people get on the internet not less. So until the Terminators finally take us out and turn us into mole men fighting over scraps of food I’m sticking with making money online.

OK, having said that Google Adsense is actually my OLD way of making money online. Over at my personal blog I showed how I went from making 3 dollars a month to 100 dollars a day JUST with Adsense. Oh it wasn’t easy. It took a whole 3 months to learn it. Now that wasn’t a normal 3 months; it was a staying up all night and fooling around on the computer 3 months. But bottom line; I did it. I “cracked the code.” And in the process I pretty much learned what works in the making money online arena. That is to say I wrote about the 3 methods I now stand behind. And essentially it’s one philosophy that applies to 3 different avenues; Adsense, eBay, and affiliate marketing. I stand behind these methods as being the best because a) you need no money at all to start, b) the income you can make has no limits, and c) nobody can say yea or nay to you doing business (no hiring, no boss, no “hours”).

Everybody has a different idea of what “a lot of money” is, but last year I was like a lot of people; ANY money made on the internet seemed pretty good. The fact that I could be in my house and somehow, without any kind of goods or services, have money show up in my bank account seemed pretty damn cool! So last year I rolled along with my Adsense and eBay money and decided to put off my third element-affiliate marketing. I guess I just didn’t like the name; it sounded too much like Multi Level Marketing (aka pyramid schemes!). But I was also hearing about people making a THOUSAND dollars a day and MORE, so I knew I was going to get involved.

So these last few months I’ve been putting in the time like I did with Adsense working ‘round the clock and I’ve been able to boil down how to be successful. You ready? This is the title piece revealed…..get people to use 2 hands. See, making money from Adsense and eBay, as I laid out on my blog, was all about getting people TO a site and then hoping they CLICK something. And that’s mouse work. People don’t have to be moved very much to click on something. BUT. Getting people to drag BOTH hands onto the keyboard and start typing is VERY difficult. Even if they don’t have to reveal any personal information. It can be as vague as their zip code, but you’d be surprised. I mean REALLY surprised at how big a barrier this is to overcome. From mouse to keyboard. If, and when, you’re able to get people to make this mouse-to-keyboard switch to fulfill some affiliate CPA offer you’ll go from making “some” money on the internet to making a LOT of money on the internet.

That’s it. Lesson over. But here’s a little anecdote if you just LOVE the way I write and want more. Up until a few years ago I made my money buying, fixing and selling houses. And last year I was sitting on a house waiting to sell. And somebody suggested I “go work at Circuit City” and I said, “No, I’m gonna stick with this internet thing. I don’t want my money based in the old economy anymore.” So you’ve heard the news right? Circuit City has gone bankrupt. And that’s bad. And sad. But that, and all the layoffs THIS week are a compelling reason to start pursuing online income. Here’s a fact; I have sites up that make me money. I can create an infinite number of sites. But let’s not be greedy, let’s say I just keep enough sites up to make 500 dollars a month. Once you learn the techniques they don’t require a lot of day to day time, they just…make money. So do that. Do that for yourself. Have this in your life. And pass the knowledge on. It’s a great gift to be able to show people how to have, at least, some degree of economic freedom.

What is the fundamental difference between a blogger and an Internet marketer? Is there any difference at all to begin with?

Since I had nothing better to do today, I decided to take the risk of being flamed by hate mail by telling you exactly where the line is drawn. While these are examples from the extreme ends of the online publishing spectrum, I believe you'll see my point by the end of this article.

Nowadays, almost every Internet marketer I know has a blog. However, none of them like to be called a blogger. Most bloggers on the other hand think they're Internet marketers. Those poor misguided souls.

Here's what fundamentally different between a blogger and a real Internet marketer making a living online:

1) Living on Search Engine Traffic

The most obvious trait I've seen in a blogger is their over-reliance on search engine traffic. In fact, probably the only way they know of getting visitors to their blogs is by getting a "degree" in Google, and spending all their time trying to please Big-G.

Internet marketers on the other hand see search engine traffic as just one component of their entire marketing campaign. They have access to a wider range of tools such as articles, joint-ventures, pay-per-click advertising and email marketing to mention a few. They have the knowledge to use them and they do so regularly.

2) Lack Of Control Over Their Mailing List

Another common trait of a blogger is the dependence on RSS subscription services like Feedburner to build a database of potential customers. they're content with the fact that by doing this they will never be able to send messages to their loyal readers other than what they post on their blogs.

When you get to a blog maintained by an Internet marketer, instead of seeing a "Subscribe by Feedburner" form, you'll see a "special offer" or reason to optin, followed by a customized form using Aweber or a similar service. Most blogger are publishers. They focus on getting content up, and then wait for people to come and chew it up. "Build it and they will come", says the blogger. You can't really blame them for taking that stand, because they lack marketing and advertising skills. They really have no other option.

Internet marketers on the other hand know that the marketing graveyard is filled with great ideas and excellent content that never saw the light of day. They know that they need to get out there and market themselves, their products and their overall brand in order to survive in the long term.

5) Limited Knowledge on Monetizing Traffic

Bloggers know of only one monetization method: advertising. The easiest is of course some sort of contextual advertising like Google Adsense or Chitika. Some even go for blog advertising networks and selling text links on their blog, but at the end of the day, they're still dependent of advertising dollars.

The Internet marketer has more tricks up his sleeve. He knows that advertising income is as stable as a melting glacier, and he diversifies his income by selling his own products or services on his blog. In fact, most of them don't even bother with contextual ads because they live much higher up the food-chain.

Let me just say that a true Internet marketer can make the same amount of money from 3 pages of his blog that the average blogger does with 300.

Firstly, an autoblogger has to learn to manage expectations. No matter how good you get at autoblogging, you're never going to produce high quality sites that attract a loyal fan-base using autoblogging methods. Nothing beats content that is original and written by a human being.

That being said, the wise autoblogger knows that all he really needs from one of his "autoblogs" is a few hundred to a few thousand visitors a month, and just one or two ways of turning those visitors into a profitable revenue stream.

2) How To Blog Automatically

Another autoblogging tactic is using data feeds from affiliate networks, and posting them into blog posts with your affiliate ID included. Unlike using RSS feeds from blogs, people don't get annoyed when you do this.

3) Autoblogging Tools

Let start with the hosting. If you're autoblogging, one blog is not enough. You'll need to create and manage a handful of blogs at the same time. Therefore, you need some sort of reseller or VPS (Virtual Private Server) that can handle many domains and individual accounts for each blog.

Blogging Wars - Wordpress Vs Blogger Part 1

There's a war going on in the blogosphere, and it has nothing to do with bloggers dissing each other on their respective websites. The war is about control of the blogosphere by several great, many good, and tons of terrible blogging platforms. The average newbie now has "too many" options to choose from, and the battle for blogging supremacy is hotter than ever.

At my website and blogs, I'm always asked the question "Is Wordpress better than Blogger?". The answer, of course, is "Yes". But to really understand why, it's important to look at both blogging platforms side-by-side and see which one you really need.

You also need to understand that there are different versions of Wordpress, the earliest now termed as "Wordpress" at Wordpress.org, and the hosted version similar to Blogger now termed "Wordpress.com" which is of course available Wordpress.com. Only the latter comes with free hosting on a sub-domain account. We'll discuss this in Part 2.

For Part 1 of this article, we look only at the self-hosted version of Wordpress. Here's the comparison scale:

1) Ease of Set-up And Use

Yes, it's much easier to set-up a blog with Blogspot.com and get your own Bloggger account. You can be done in 10 minutes flat. Once you're set-up you can start posting immediately. If you want to add a designer's touch to your blog, there are also tons of blogger templates available for free.

Installing Wordpress however can be a major headache if you don't know what you're doing. Since you're going to host it on your own account, you'll need to download the installation files, upload them to your server, set-up a database, and run the configuration script.

However, if you know which hosting account to get, you can choose one with Cpanel included. With Cpanel, you can do a one-click installation, upgrade and removal of your Wordpress platform.

2) Customization & Advanced Use

Blogger doesn't allow categories. You can't sort your articles into different focuses, unless you know how to hack the platform. With Wordpress, not only can you add categories, you can also display each category differently on your main page. In fact with the correct plugins you can even turn your Wordpress into a magazine-like portal.

Publishing with Blogger can extremely furstrating. It can take forever to post articles, especially if you're making changes to the entire website. With Wordpress, publishing is much faster, although if you load your system with all kinds of bells and whistles it can be just as frustrating.

With a Blogger account, you can get additional features like "Shout Boxes" that improve interaction on your site. You can also get pretty themes and nifty little tools that you can add to the core template files. However, that's as far as you can go with Blogger.

With Wordpress however, the sky is the limit. As cliche as that may sound, not only can you get themes, additional "plugins" and advanced tools, you can also extend Wordpress to far beyond just a blogging platform.

The talk today is about using Wordpress as a complete, user-friendly Content Management System or CMS. Unlike complicated predecessors like PHPPostNuke, B2, Mambo or even Joomla, Wordpress is user friendly. Plus, the availability of source codes in this open-source system coupled with a strong community makes it possible to use Wordpress as an article management system, classifieds system, direct-selling site and even a paid membership site.

4) Copyrights and Ownership of Content

I started with Blogger and I won't say that it's bad. But after a while I started to get frustrated with Blogger, and here's why: Google Owns Your Content

Google has the authority to shut down your account without warning if they don't like what you're blogging about. You don't have absolute control over your own blog. With Wordpress, you own the domain name and the blog is hosted on your own account. You have full control over your content.

With the self-hosted version of Wordpress (not Wordpress.com), you're free to write about anything you want, and use the software in any way you want. Yes, Blogger allows you to publish to your own domain, but they still own the database that holds your content! Don't forget that!

5) Search Engine Optimization and Traffic

There's this propaganda that since Google owns Blogger, they tend to favor Blogger accounts. I won't say that this is illogical, but from my experience, there's no such favoritism.

I've heard as many stories of getting indexed fast and ranking high in search engines from both Wordpress and Blogger users. As long as the content is good, the spiders will come.

When you post in Blogger, you can only "ping" a limited amount of sites, whereas with Wordpress on your own domain you can ping as many blog directories as you want, and start getting more traffic.

As a conclusion, I would say that Wordpress is only slightly ahead in terms of optimization for search engines, and building large amounts of traffic.

6) Money-Making Potential

There's no doubt that it's easier to get started with Google Adsense if you have a Blogger account. In fact you can now apply for Adsense from within a Blogger account. Not entirely surprising considering the fact that both are owned by the same company.

With Wordpress, it can get tricky. The default installation is not enough. You'll need a couple of plugins and even a better theme to really maximize the Adsense potential. However, this seems to be getting easier and there's even "Adsense revenue sharing" plugins around that allow you to share ad revenue with other contributors and writers for your blog.

When you start using Wordpress to build your Adsense websites, you'll soon discover what I mean. It's something you need to experience for yourself. I can tell you one thing though - when you go Wordpress, you don't go back.
